Week in WRAP

This week, Noah and I had the chance to reconnect with friends that we have not seen in over a year...

Last year on January 21st, 2011, Noah and I were at the Christian Center playing our saxophones for a birthday party. One of my friends from school was celebrating her son's birthday, so Noah and I decided to spice up the party with pep-band tunes! While playing in the party room, we had a clear view of the bowling alley through a window. Peering through the window, I saw two friends who I knew from church, Raven who was in first grade and Ivy who was in fifth grade. They kept waving at us, calling for us to go into the bowling alley to play a song. After minutes of deliberation, Noah and I made way for the bowling alley. The first song we played was Lets Get it Started by the Black Eyed Peas. By the end of the night, we had the whole place singing along to the Hey Song!

That following Friday, Noah and I decided to head back to the Christian Center and entertain the bowlers with music. Little did Raven or Ivy know, Noah I continued to go back to the Christian Center every Friday night during the spring. Still to this day, we go out to the Christian Center on our Fridays to make surprise appearances at birthday parties, meet new friends, and share our passion for music. If it were not for Raven and Ivy, our ministry at the Christian Center would not exist. This past week, Noah and I discovered that Raven and Ivy were moving to Texas on Thursday. We had not talked with them since that January of 2011, so I got in contact with their dad. This past Wednesday, the day before they left, we went over to their house at 7:30AM and shared all of our pictures, videos, and stories from the past year. Before we left, we were able to have a picture taken with them both (please see the attachment).

I found this quote that I think perfectly describes our encounter with these two awesome individuals...

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this

meeting that a new world is born." -Anais Nin

Week in WRAP

Wow Wow Wow...

I cannot explain how thankful we are for ALL of the generous supporters who came to Kroger in East Peoria on Saturday. We have a multitude of people we need to thank. To begin, two EPCHS band members, Kyle Eaker and Brandon Palmer, volunteered their entire Saturday to play music and help collect donations. Kelsi Roth, one of our friends who can paint better than Picasso, designed and painted a custom banner for our bake goods table (please see the attached picture). In addition, the foods class at EPCHS made over 12 dozen cookies, brownies, and cupcakes for our event. In addition to that, we also had numerous donations of delectable treats from family and friends.
At the end of our day, it was time to count the donations jar. After minutes of tension and excitement, our grand total for the entire bake sale was $1,260 dollars (500+ recorders)!! Again, none of this would have been possible without the kind, generous support from our followers. Most importantly, none of RSQUARED, our bake sale, or anything would have been possible without our support from God. He has provided us with countless new friendships, resources, transportation, event locations, performances, talent, and beyond over this past year.
Within the next two weeks, we plan to place a bulk order for 100 or 200 recorders. Then, over spring break, we will design and create a custom RSQUARED recorder handbook that we can pass out along with our recorders. We hope that this idea will enable us to share our passion for music and inspire future musicians to create their own, "R SQUARED."
We will keep you up to date as this idea unfolds. Again, thank you!

Week in WRAP
This past Friday night, Noah and I had planned to start the evening by going to Panera bread to work on updating our website and a few other house cleaning tasks. As we were about to leave for Panera, we received a call from Bill and his grandson Brandon (Two close friends that we met at the Christian Center last spring). They asked us if we were going to the Christian Center to play. At first, we had thought about going to play at the Christian Center after Panera, but we have not seen Brandon in over 7 months! With that in mind, we cancelled our plans for Panera and headed toward the Christian Center, full steam ahead!
Upon arrival at the Christian Center, we learned that the Camp of Champions were there that night, which meant the place would be packed! The Camp of Champions is a Christian group of around 50 kids who go to the Christian Center on Friday nights once a month. Noah and I arrived before Bill and Brandon, so we went ahead and started playing. God blessed us last year with the privilege to meet Bill and Brandon at the Christian Center, and we have kept in contact with them over this past year. When they arrived, we played a few tunes for them, and then Brandon showed us his T-Shirt design for R Squared. In fact, he drew up a few designs for us that we hope to incorporate into our future T-Shirt. How AMAZING would it be to have t-shirts designed by one of our closest friends that we met through R Squared!
As the night progressed, we continued playing tunes, but kept a close eye on the birthday party in the party room. One of R Squared's favorite things to do is make surprise appearances at birthday parties. We call these little events saxograms! :) When they were lighting the candles for the birthday cake, we quickly made way toward the party room. Noah asked if we could play happy birthday for them, and they were ecstatic. We grabbed happy birthday, our music stand, and rocked out. As we played happy birthday, all 19 people sang along! After happy birthday, I played one of R Squared's favorites, Oh Susana, then Noah and I played a few of our favorite tunes for them. Before the night was over, we had a picture taken with this group and gave them our business cards. They thanked us with two, absolutely delicious cupcakes! I need to add, this was record breaking for R Squared because this is the largest birthday party that we have played for to date. Check out the attached picture of us with this awesome, energetic group!
After the party, we continued playing in the bowling alley as Camp of Champions kids came up surrounded us. They were singing and clapping along while we played, in fact, I believe this was the largest group of kids that we have had sing along with us at the Christian Center! After playing for about two hours, we packed up and headed for Culver's on University with Bill and Brandon. This was our first time going out to eat with Bill and Brandon after a performance, and we enjoyed this time of fellowship that God provided us. This was only our 2ND performance of the year, and God is already doing AMAZING things in our lives, ministry, and the people around us.

*If you would like to make one of your family or friends birthday one they will never forget, send them an R SQUARED saxogram! Please reply to this message and include SAXOGRAM in your subject*
